Elli Charger 2: Note on network compatibility (TT/TN/IT systems)
Note on the network type (TT/TN/IT systems) for the Elli Charger 2
The Elli Charger 2 is basically designed for operation in a TN network designed as is common in many residential areas and new buildings.
What is a TN network?
The TN network (Terra Neutral) is the standard in residential and commercial areas in Germany and many other countries. Here, the neutral conductor is directly connected to earth, and the protective conductor and neutral conductor are already connected in the house connection. This system ensures stable and reliable fault current detection.
The Elli Charger 2 is fully designed for use in the TN network and works reliably and without problems – without any additional measures by the installer.
What about a TT network?
A TT network (Terra-Terra) is also technically usable, but only under certain conditions:
The wallbox is designed for a Ground resistance of maximum 1 ohm If this limit is exceeded, the wallbox switches to error mode and the charging process is prevented.
According to the manufacturer, compliance with this limit in the TT network is often difficult, since the earth resistance there is typically over 1 ohm Therefore, it can only be used if an electrician measures the resistance and it remains consistently below 1 ohm.
How do you know which network you have?
Whether you have a TN- or TT network is present, only an electrical specialist company This is usually done by visual inspection and measurement in the house connection box.
Where do TT networks occur frequently?
- in rural regions
- at older buildings
- at Individual systems with its own earthing
- occasionally in older installations despite modernization
What about an IT network?
A IT network (isolated grid) is primarily used in special applications such as hospitals, industrial facilities, or ships. The neutral point of the power grid is not directly grounded.
The Elli Charger 2 is not suitable for IT networksIn these environments, the necessary earth potential for fault-free operation is missing. The wallbox could therefore not work correctly or do not start at all.
Conclusion:
- TN network: fully supported, recommended network shape
- TT network: conditionally supported, only if the earth resistance is ≤ 1 Ohm and prior testing by an electrician is necessary!
- IT network: not suitable
