Finding the right coolant specification for your VW
Choosing the right coolant is crucial for the longevity of your engine. Today, Volkswagen relies exclusively on the current G12evo specification, which is suitable for all VW vehicles and can be mixed with older coolants. G12evo is offered as a ready-mix, provides reliable frost protection down to -35 °C and protects the engine permanently against corrosion. Genuine VW coolant G12evo meets all current VAG requirements and enables safe refilling regardless of the year of manufacture. This ensures a high level of operational reliability and long-term engine protection.

The miscibility of coolants is one of the most frequently asked questions in the workshop. Basically: G12evo is compatible with all previous VW specifications - from G11 to G12 to G13. This means maximum flexibility for you when refilling. Nevertheless, always check the manufacturer's specifications in your operating instructions, as the color alone is not a reliable indicator. Pink-colored G12 and violet-colored G13 may look similar, but they have different compositions. At MOTOMINDS, we will be happy to advise you on the right coolant for your vehicle - use our customer service for a safe selection. In this way, you can avoid expensive engine damage caused by incorrect mixing and benefit from the full protective effect of the original VW coolant. Incidentally, you can hand in used oil or oil filters and oily waste regularly produced during oil changes to us in person.

Frequently asked questions about VW coolant
Which coolant for Volkswagen?
Today, only the G12evo specification is used for VW vehicles. This coolant is suitable for all model years, can be mixed with older coolant specifications and is offered as a ready-mix with antifreeze protection down to -35 °C. You will find the relevant information in the operating instructions or on a notice in the engine compartment, for example on the outlet.
How do I know whether my coolant is G12 or G13?
The specification can usually be found on the expansion tank or in your vehicle's operating instructions. G12 is typically pink in color, G13 purple - however, the color alone is not a reliable indicator. If in doubt, the chassis number will help you to determine the correct coolant.
Why does VW use G12evo today?
Volkswagen now relies exclusively on G12evo, as this specification is suitable for all VW vehicles and can be mixed with earlier coolants such as G12 or G13. G12evo offers reliable protection against frost, corrosion and thermal stress and meets all current VAG requirements. The manufacturer's approval is always decisive - with G12evo you are on the safe side with VW vehicles.
Do I absolutely have to use an original VW product?
Genuine VW coolants are guaranteed to meet the strict VAG standards and offer optimum engine protection. Alternative products must have the correct specification (e.g. TL-774 L for G12evo) in order to avoid engine damage.
Can I top up with distilled water?
If the coolant level is low, you can top up with distilled water if necessary, up to a maximum of 0.5 liters. Larger quantities dilute the antifreeze dangerously. Use the correct ready-mix as soon as possible for long-lasting protection.
How often does the coolant need to be changed?
In newer VW vehicles, there is generally no fixed replacement interval. The coolant is usually only replaced if work has been carried out on the cooling system or if the measured values are no longer within the specifications during maintenance.
For older vehicles, fixed replacement intervals of two to four years used to apply, depending on the type of coolant used at the time. You can find the relevant information for your vehicle in the service booklet or in the owner's manual.
